How does online therapy work?
I use a HIPPA compliant software called SimplePractice. You will create a username and password, and once you login, you will have access to a secure client portal. You can review policy and procedures, update your personal info, and message me securely. Appointments links are sent to you via email and/or text, and you just click the link to begin your session. You can meet for therapy anywhere you have internet access. So grab a cup of coffee or tea, snuggle into a cozy spot, and let's get started!
What’s the difference between talking to you or my best friend or family?
A mental health professional can help you approach your situation in a new way– teach you new skills, gain different perspectives, listen to you without judgment or expectations, and help you listen to yourself. Furthermore, counseling is completely confidential. You won’t have to worry about others “knowing my business.” Lastly, if your situation provokes a great deal of negative emotion, and you’ve been confiding in a friend or family member, there is the risk that once you are feeling better you could start avoiding that person so you aren’t reminded of this difficult time in your life.
What do I have to do in sessions?
Because each person has different issues and goals for counseling, it will be different depending on the individual. I tailor my therapeutic approach to your specific needs. I ask that you bring your authentic self to therapy, an open-mind, and a humble heart, and I promise to do the same.
How long will it take?
Everyone’s circumstances are unique, and the length of time counseling can take to allow you to accomplish your goals depends on many factors. You and I will work together to create a plan towards reaching your goals, and I offer accountability and support along the way.
