God brought captivity to Israel (by the Assyrians) to reveal their captivity to their idols.
Just like God brought the Law to reveal sin.
In the waiting, God reveals my impatience.
In the neediness of small children, God reveals my selfishness.
In the boredom of the mundane, God reveals my discontentment.
These are not punishments, yet rather they are grace-filled reminders of where I’m placing my hope and joy.
Do I put my hope and joy in my desires, my time freedom, my activities, or in Jesus?
Because He alone gives me the desires of my heart, yet I constantly grasp at the lesser. He is revealing that to me daily, so that I can turn my focus back to Him, the greater.
What a beautiful gift.
